The Prophet

1 Corinthians 12:28-31 addresses the significance of spiritual gifts within the context of glorifying Jesus Christ and contributing to the church community. It poses the essential questions regarding individual gifts: their identification, their purpose, and the manner in which they serve the church. The text introduces the role of the prophet, defined as a preacher and guide, who is called by God to convey His message, which may include foresight regarding future events. Importantly, it notes that the contemporary use of the title "prophet" has diminished, as believers now have access to the complete Scripture in the King James Bible (KJB). The prophet's calling is distinctly attributed to divine inspiration, emphasizing that their teachings must align solely with God's Word. Supportive Scripture references are provided, namely Genesis 20:7, Deuteronomy 18:15-22, and Psalm 51:1, reinforcing the claim of the prophet's God-given role and the necessity for their messages to be rooted in biblical teachings. This structure highlights the dual focus of recognizing personal spiritual gifts while serving the larger mission of the church.
